Part one Treating candida overgrowth with herbs I struggled for 20 years with various health issues caused by a candida overgrowth in the gut which was healed in 4- 6 months using herbs. By sharing my experiences, I hope it will benefit someone who is experiencing similar symptoms. I started exhibiting signs of candida as a child in the form of dry skin. The symptoms worsened in my teen years and deteriorated further when I became an adult. Symptoms included dry eyes, brain fog, restless sleep, skin rashes, dry scalp, headaches, food allergies, mood swings, scattered thoughts, poor digestion, constipation, insomnia, obsessive compulsive thoughts and behaviour, anxiety, brittle finger nails, bloating, migraines, painful menstruation cramps, fatigue, blocked sinuses, stomach cramps…etc. I spent eleven years seeking help from 10 professionals (4 mainstream doctors, 6 holistic professionals, including Chinese medicine, acupuncture and kinesiology) which unfortunately came to nothing and was a fruitless waste of time, money and effort. I tried the candida elimination diet which recommends eliminating sugar, dairy, gluten, all fruit, peanuts, alcohol, honey, vegetables such as carrots, winter squash, pumpkin and mushrooms. I persisted with the diet for many months/years at a time, but it still didn’t get to the root of my problem and I developed vitamin deficiencies due to the strictness of the diet. I tried a vegetarian diet, but that also didn’t help my symptoms. I tried the following supplements which were of little to no help: different brands of good quality probiotics, digestive enzymes, udo’s choice oil blend, evening primrose oil, fish oil capsules, cod liver oil, calcium, b vitamins, black walnut, apple cider vinegar (from the mother), charcoal, psyllium husk, pau d’arco, garlic, A. Vogel products, flax seed oil, spirulina, milk thistle, iodine and vit c.
