AMERICA'S STRATEGIC PETROLEUM RESERVE doesn't exist to moderate gasoline pump prices, especially not in order to temporarily obscure rises in prices reflecting (invariably-government-caused) inflation until a mid-term election is safely rigged. The Strategic Petroleum Reserve exists in order to ensure that an immediate and secure supply of oil is on hand with which to fuel American tanks, mobile artillery, troop transports, fighter jets, battleships and bombers-- and to reliably maintain and deploy the infrastructure needed to build and equip more of the same-- in the event of war. The Democrats in control in Washington, however, having grievously wounded the American economy over the last two years (and with much more damage waiting in the wings), have drained more than 165 million barrels from the reserve in order to conceal increases in the price of gas caused by their policies. This has dropped the reserve to its lowest level since 1984. I'm not a particularly "hawkish" guy, but in light of the simultaneous, deliberate and ongoing destruction of American oil-production infrastructure, this crass political ploy by the Democrats is singularly irresponsible, and those who ARE "hawkish", or even just prudent, ought to be raising the roof and proposing articles of impeachment, right now.
