RARE “DOOMSDAY FISH” DISCOVERED ALONG MISSISSIPPI RIVER SHORE IN ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI Early this morning, a jogger near the Mississippi River in St. Louis reportedly came across a massive, serpent-like fish washed up along the shoreline and snapped photos before authorities arrived. The strange creature resembles the legendary oarfish — often nicknamed the “doomsday fish” — a rarely seen deep-sea species surrounded by myths linking it to earthquakes, disasters, and other unexplained events. Oarfish normally live thousands of feet beneath the ocean surface and almost never appear near land unless sick, injured, or dying. Experts say an actual oarfish appearing this far inland would be virtually impossible, but the bizarre sight has already fueled speculation and viral reactions across Missouri social media. “If there was ever a place for something weird to happen in 2025… it would be the Mississippi River.”
