Flying the US flag upside down as a sign of distress really doesn't work for you guys. It really only works for the British Union flag (a.k.a. Union Jack) because so few people (even most Brits today) know which is the right way up. So if a British force approched a British camp and as they approached they saw that the flag was flying upside down they KNEW that the flag was raised either by an untrained enemy or as a signal to approach with caution. During the Queen's last State visit to the US I noticed that one of the ceremonial flags raised in her honour .....was upside down. You can't accidentally raise Old Glory upside down.
