I have a few words of advice for diabetics and people who have an A1C over 7. If you have a diabetic ulcer on your foot be careful about using an Aircast boot. I had an ulcer that was 99% healed and I fractured my fibula on my left leg in 2 places and they put a boot on me until I could see the orthopedic doctor. I wore it for 5 days and I only took it off to shower and change the dressing on my ulcer every day. On the day of my appointment I noticed some discharge from the wound and I told the doctor that I believed that my wound was getting infected. They took a culture of it and said they would give me an antibiotic when they knew what kind of bacteria they were dealing with. 6 days later I was admitted to the the hospital and had to have surgery to remove dead and infected flesh from my foot. They were able to save my big toe but I have a huge hole in the bottom of my foot and months of recovery ahead of me. If you’re a diabetic please take care of your feet.
