As soon as Gaetz stepped down as the nomination I figured Bondi would be on the short list of options. I figured it would be her because of her work with Trump in 2020 especially. She’s a great pick. But she won’t bring the same fire sale and sweeping investigations like Gaetz would have. I think there’s something more at play behind the scenes here though. Trump doesn’t go into big decisions without knowing all the angles first. You can’t convince me that he didn’t know Gaetz would be a hard sell for confirmation. No way Trump was caught off guard by that. It could be him asking for the most unlikely pick just to then ask for someone else to make people think “well it’s at least better than Gaetz!” Or it could be that Gaetz could take Rubio’s Senate seat. Whether by installation by DeSantis or by special election. Because the support for Gaetz for AG by the MAGA base is MASSIVE. Especially now that it looks like he was screwed by establishment Republicans. He could easier win a special election for that Senate seat. Was that the plan all along?
