Ayn Rand’s Objectivism is not libertarianism. It’s a political category of its own. You can believe in liberty, limited government, and individual rights without embracing Rand’s moral philosophy of egoism and radical self-interest. That’s why many libertarians reject Objectivism entirely. A society cannot survive on selfishness. Family, faith, charity, duty, and moral restraint matter too. This is why egoism is a problem. Even Anton Lavey once said that his Satanism was basically “just Ayn Rand’s philosophy with ceremony and ritual added.” Whether people agree with that comparison or not, it shows how deeply Rand’s philosophy centered the self above all else. Free markets are one thing. Turning selfishness into a virtue is another.
