Because propane is not as easy to get in a pinch where we live, I recently decided to try out an off-grid diesel heater to use as we work on our milk shed this winter. This thing is the size and shape of a briefcase!  I didn't want to put something permanent in because I'm still not sure how the exact layout will look when I finish insulating and putting up drywall, so this works out great for heating the space while we work on it.
