"For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God..." — 1 Timothy 4:10 When we were studying this passage, one phrase kept grabbing our attention: "our hope is set." Paul doesn't say our hope drifts toward God or occasionally looks to Him. It's intentionally fixed on the living God. That hope became the motivation behind all the labor, sacrifice, and perseverance he described. It's a good reminder for us too. When our hope is set on circumstances, people, or outcomes, we become discouraged when those things change. But when our hope is set on the living God, we have an anchor that doesn't move, even when life does. That's one of the reasons we love studying the Bible.
