Very few people, politicians included, understand that many of the Jews in America were never descendants of the diaspora which started with the expulsion of Jews by the Romans in 70AD but were converts from the times when the Kievan Rus demanded that the lawless Khazar community pick a main religion from the three in the western orbit, Christianity, Judaism or Islam, in order to abide by some precepts (or norms) of what stood at the base of orderly morality. Unexpectedly, they chose Judaism. For the first time ever there was a mass conversion to Judaism by a people who started off merely as opportunists. Yet these people, later to be driven further west by the arrival of the Mongol hoards some centuries later, were culturally most unlike what the the earlier descendants of Moses, who became known as Sephardic Jews - after the Iberian located diaspora. This new class or Jews became known as the Ashkenazi Jews (aka Khazarian Jews or Russian Jews - even though not all of them came via Russia). It was from this historically different people, distinctive by their foodstuffs (the Chicken Soup Jews or Jewish Penicillin Jews as they are sometimes known as. Anyone who has eaten regularly at Jewish households will immediately understand this.) From these Jews, came the massive banking families of the Rothschilds, the Warburgs - previously the del Bancos from Venezia - who over a period metamorphosed back into the German speaking world after Napoleon (himself a Rothschild asset) had taken over all Europe by one means of another. These Germans turned Venetians and then reverting back to Germans again eventually moved to Hamburg and gradually mopped up the massive Hanseatic trade of the Baltic League. To most people, these were just indistinguishable from the traditional Jews as they adopted a reasonably similar liturgy, if a different mode of dress. Then Hitler's arrival precipitated another dispersal of these peoples, who had already expanded into Eastern Europe, also becoming diaspora based. They even managed to penetrate the top ranks of government in Israel from its very formation and increasingly so as it grew. Ashkenazi Jews probably account for as much as 80% of the total worldwide. The Sephardic originals generally do not, nor have ever, proselytised. The Ashkenazi are definitionally converts in their backgrounds. It is a very complex picture and my brief summary only begins to identify the very different picture which different nations have of Judaism. Christianity has its massive differences but these stem in the main from schism and not so drastically from mass conversion. We have to bear in mind that Constantine never forced Christianity upon the Roman Empire. A citizen could chose from the early fourth century Edict of Milan. Given that the evidence for his actually conversion is less than clear, there are those who consider it was a political conversion rather than an actual one. This is a risky matter even to broach in some circles. But if one is interested in following the Truth - no matter where that shall lead - then the course is honourable. I used to call the Jews of Golder's Green, north London, the ZZ Tops - this caused much amusement to most of my friends - including Jews from both sides of the divide.
