The difference between the scoffer and the man of understanding is more than just intelligence. It is the position of the heart. The scoffer may seek wisdom but refuses to accept it. He questions, mocks, debates, and resists correction. He seeks knowledge on his own terms. However, the man of understanding approaches wisdom with humility. He is willing to listen, learn, receive feedback, and align his thinking with what is true. This is an important reminder in biblical counseling: we don't just need more information; we need hearts that are open to receiving God's truth. Wisdom is not difficult because God has kept it hidden from us. It is often difficult because pride prevents us from hearing what we already know we need to hear. Ask yourself today: Am I seeking wisdom to obey God, or am I looking for information to justify myself?
