Ever get the feeling you're being watched as you are inside your RV in the woods? You probably are. One of my Buds felt this, told his wife to put on a bit of a show in the lighted room, then sneaked out, then found someone on a hill watching his cabin. He found what he was sensing. An illegal in the woods, watching them. He's gotten trail cam pix of bobcat and bear around his place. He can hear coyotes and they try to lure his dog off his property. Lots of things can be out there. Motion cameras can be good, same as motion lights. But they can be defeated...but still good unless someone has intent. Anywho....A fair amount of people call themselves a "Hunter", when in reality, their hunt is little more than a 'canned hunt'....going to a place where it's set up to just sit down and pull the trigger after not long of a wait. Often also it's in a blind where they move around, check their phones, talk to each other, etc. Private land, not a lot of patience, not a lot if any actual hunting skills and experience needed. Just be a somewhat reasonable shot, then claim the title. This kid is a Hunter. He heard rustling behind him and knew better to turn and look. Often, you just have to remain immobile and wait until whatever it is eventually gets into your periphreal view. Good tactic for a prey animal as they slowly move forward, look around before, during and after each step, smelling the wind, listening, scanning. My guess is he knew this was different by the sound of the movement. He might also have a developed 'sense' to know he's the focus of something with intent, not a general scanner. Animals, women and children have this more than males, though males can get it back through training/experience. Stare at something they know they're being stared at. Think about it as you stare and it's doubly signalled to them. That's the 'sense' I'm talking about. You can develop this in yourself by stalking animals. This where you become part of the woods, but invisible by sight and other senses. Ever hear a white tail deer scream? I have. Get close enough to them then when they suddely realize you are there, they literally scream and explode away in panic. I'da not thought about the phone thing. Generational wisdom right there for that young guy that I lacked. He was bitten in the shoulder. Later, shot a turkey then went in for stitches. Vid out there. And great example of why almost all of the time I have a pistol, at the least a 22LR.
