@ninjakidsdojo I have lived among the Amish for about 30 years. I have several friends that are Amish. Honestly most Amish families eat about like everyone else. I know families that are very careful about their diets, but others that eat terribly.
The best advice you could give a young person is.
#1 Eat a diet that is very diverse. The greatest gut microbiomes need a diversity of foods. The Hunza and Hadza, are two groups that live the longest and have very few diseases. They have 300 species or more each year that makes up their diet. In America it would be easy to eat 500 species each year. Especially if someone was adept at foraging.
#2 Don’t try to be perfect. I know people that are so stressed out about eating. Stress is the real killer. I have known people that tried to do everything just right but were stressed out and they ended up being very unhealthy.
#3 Don’t allow any food to become your God. The healthiest people groups eat many types of food. So many people want to elevate certain things. The carnivores say vegetables are terrible for you. The vegetarians say meat is bad. They are both wrong. We know from the scriptures that God gave us both specifically. In fact the Apostle said those that only eat herbs are weak in faith. We also know that Daniel and his companions were very healthy eating simple diets that didn’t have all the rich foods from the king’s table.
#4 Eat things the way God designed them. Man is always tampering with food to try to make it more satisfying to the flesh. People demand super fluffy bread. Modern wheats have been bred for increased gluten. Ancient varieties are more mineral dense and have less gluten. Animals raised in confinement are not as nutritious as grass fed the way God designed. The list could go on and on the way people have changed what God originally intended and designed.
I hope this helps. God bless you!
