Did GM get it wrong again? Is 0W-20 oil too thin for a diesel engine? The 3.0L Duramax engine is experiencing thrust bearing failures reminiscent of the GM L87 engine recall. Both engine platforms share something in common - 0W-20 oil. To answer these questions, we dyno tested a GM 3.0L Duramax engine on 0W-20, 0W-30, 0W-40 and 5W-40 oils.
