That’s quite the cool perspective shift! Check it out: All throughout the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are what can be seen things which mankind regularly refers to as “signs, wonders and miracles”. Ever notice how those things were during the time of Jesus’ earthly ministry? Ever notice how those things were all still in the B.C. Era under Mosaic law (Galatians 4:4-5)? Ever notice how those things were before the resurrection and were before Pentecost? Ever notice how those things were before the John 19:30-point where Jesus announced “It is finished”, marking the beginning of the A.D. Era (NOT where book publishers put it at Matthew 1 by using big block letters to announce “THE NEW TESTAMENT”)? Ever notice how He told the disciples they would “do even greater things”? JOHN 14:12 (BSB) Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I am doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. GALATIANS 4:4-5 (BSB) But when the time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive our adoption as sons. OK, so, what would those “greater things” be then? Well...glad you asked. Ever notice how those “signs, wonders and miracles were in the PHYSICAL? Those things: Fine and dandy. However those “greater things” also stepped over the proverbial line to include things in the SPIRITUAL. Say it with different words: It’s one thing to heal a walking condition but quite a different thing for that inner lightbulb to illuminate within that person and then see him or her ALSO recognize the need for salvation. Sure, there were about a BOATLOAD of those “signs, wonders and miracles” which did a bang-up job of demonstrating the kingdom of Heaven but the desire was also there to demonstrate the need for salvation, hence the “subtle hint” of, “...and you will know the truth, and the truth shall set you free” (John 8:32). JOHN 8:30-32 (BSB) As Jesus spoke these things, many believed in Him. So He said to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, you are truly My disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” JOHN 19:30 (BSB) When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished.” And bowing His head, He yielded up His spirit. (SIDE NOTE ON THAT “JOHN 8:32” PASSAGE ABOVE: Notice the “IF/THEN” principle at work. That’s basically how the law worked and why the Old Testament was all about EXTERNAL things and not INTERNAL ones as seen in the New Testament. “IF you do ‘this’, then I will do ‘this’”.) ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** “The main thing is to make sure the main thing is the main thing because without that main thing, you’ve got no thing.” Forever’s a long time. Naturally, that “main thing” is the finished work of Jesus (2 Corinthians 13:5). EVERYONE needs a savior (1 John 1:8-10) since the evil of mankind runs so deep there’s absolutely NOTHING anyone in this fallen world can ever do to rectify it. 2 CORINTHIANS 13:5 (BSB) Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you—unless you fail the test? 1 JOHN 1:8-10 (BSB) If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His word is not in us. https://biblehub.com/ For one to be labeled a “Christian” means that person is a “Christ follower”. (A note of caution here is how there’s a difference between imitating Jesus and trusting the finished work of Jesus.) (SIDE NOTE: The term “Christ” is a title, not a name. It means either “Anointed One” or “Messiah”. “Jesus” means “The LORD is salvation”.) (ANOTHER SIDE NOTE: Don’t forget that “LORD” (all caps) in the Old Testament is the HEBREW word. It’s a reference to “Yahweh”. By contrast, “Lord” in the New Testament is the GREEK word. It’s a reference to “Jesus”, which is the English translation of the word “Yeshua”. And yet, they are one in the same...but yet they are not...but yet they are one in same...but yet they are not...but...MORE MYSTERY TIME!)
