RBP 242: John Perkins and Race Relations in the Church | Guest: Missionary Marco Latest episode of the Removing Barriers Podcast Episode 242 Missionary Marco joins us on this episode of the Removing Barriers Podcast to discuss John Perkins, a pastor described at the time of his death as one of America's unsung heroes for having sought to heal the scourge of racism through the ministry of the church. He was raised by his grandmother after the death of his mother and the abandonment of his father and came to faith as an adult, at the invitation of his son. From that point on, having experienced overt racism firsthand and making the Christlike decision to forgive, Perkins threw all of himself into ministering to the people around him. He moved out of the affluent area he was living in to a less desirable "ghetto" area. All aspects of his ministry involved real action to combat socio-economic issues that accompany the spiritual issues the people faced. At first glance and in light of recent trends, we may be tempted to dismiss his work as the social gospel or woke theology, but Missionary Marco argues that our churches may be able to learn a thing or two about missions from Perkins, and that Christians should be challenged to give more of themselves to the Great Commission. Though there are certain aspects of Perkins' theology that Missionary Marco would not agree with, he joins us to help shed more light on this relatively unknown minister and the good he's done to address some of the ugly realities in U.S. race relations today.
