I'm seeing this go around the internet a lot. Gab is full of posts just like this one..... and I gotta disagree vehemently. More over, I'd even go so far as to say it's thinking like this which has led to the mess we're all complaining about. Forgiveness is not to be treated so poorly. Jesus condemned thousands of people who were not repentant. That means Forgiveness is earned, not handed out like cheap candy! Propaganda works well, and if you repeat a lie often enough... people will believe it's the truth. People forget that Jesus could see the truth in a person. He knew you were honestly repentant. In that very instant, he knew the truth and you had no way of hiding it from him. Forgiveness was given only after the penitent asked for it, not before, and only if the person was truly remorseful and seeking to change. You do not have that power. That's why scripture tells us that you will judge others. You shall know the tree by the fruit that it bears. You are expected to wait and judge based on results, not simply forgive someone who does not ask for your forgiveness and doesn't regret their actions. This rush to forgive is a sin. Sorry. It's performative, and contrary to scripture. If more christians understood this, we'd not be seeing Christendom in the state that it is.
