We've known that children should not start education too early for more than a century, and every study into the effects of homework has found that it does harm. Why then does our government persist in pushing for earlier and harsher schooling? Iowa extending compulsory education to four year olds? New York enrolling three year olds? It cannot be ignorance, because these facts have been well known for a very long time, and because many of the theories that have been pushed hardest are those which resulted in damaged children from the very first time they were tried.
