I see a lot of postings from so called #anons or browsers of 4chan or 8kun. While I'm okay with those services, and I am NOT harping on most anons here, I did see a posting this evening that made me look into a few different #fediverse websites. The post presented these sites as "#freespeech" fediverse instances. The bulk of these sites were running #Pleroma, with a few sites running #Mastodon. Out of the handful I looked at it was pretty clear to me that they weren't pushing much #freespeech at all. Most of them were dedicated to #anime which I'm not a consumer of really. I just don't really enjoy it like some people do, and that's fine of that is your thing. There was maybe one out of the handful I looked at that was truly free speech. Quite a few were going as far as running anti-racist filters, some had #porn filters on. While #Gab itself has a no porn policy, so even they have issues with it, I think it's deceptive to label that free speech. My definition is definitely speech which falls inside US law, but I'm not really for censorship of porn even. I don't post that kind of thing out of respect for my audience, nor do I really support that kind of behavior. I'm never going to be for #censorship of it, and that is one of the many ways I differentiate myself from Gab even. I'm more for people being allowed to simply make their own choices on matters like that, and have never really viewed it as my place to be judgemental of that choice. That view of course differs when we're talking about persons under the age of #consent, who are forced into this dark world by all sorts of unsavory perverted characters. Clearly, I'm for the punishment of crimes related to that, but there is a clear line for me drawn at the age of consent. At any rate when looking at the fediverse in it's current state, based on a #activitypub, it's mostly run by #SJW #leftists who haven't ever been advocates of speech they don't like. There may be a few diamonds in the rough when it comes to fediverse instances, but don't bet the farm on it. My experience in that world is that Gab is probably the best you're going to get even though it's not perfect. The only platform in my view that even comes close is #Minds.
