Russula brevipes - This mushroom is considered "edible", although rather bland in taste. For some reason the ones that grow here are quite acrid in taste; and everyone I know that eats them from this locale gets mild gastrointestinal upset. So, I consider them toxic. This mushroom is a species that that can become infected with Hypomyces lactifluorum; which transforms it into the delicacy "Lobster Mushroom".
