#AnelitoFuggente ("Soul in Flight") is a moving bronze sculpture created in 1914 by Italian sculptor #RupertoBanterle (1889–1968). Commissioned by the poet #LionelloFiumi to commemorate the passing of his mother, the sculpture is housed in the Monumental Cemetery of #Verona, inside the Fiumi family tomb. The work depicts a young nude woman passionately embraced by a muscular male figure, both rendered with astonishing anatomical precision. The male figure symbolizes Life, desperately trying to prevent the woman, who represents the soul, from surrendering to the embrace of Death. This composition draws inspiration from Michelangelo's "Dying Slave," embodying the tension between the tight grip of life and the inevitable departure of the soul. Upon its unveiling, "Fugitive Anelito" sparked controversy for its sensual realism, which some critics deemed inappropriate for a funerary context. Nevertheless, the sculpture was widely recognized for its high artistic value and emotional depth. Its evocative depiction of the struggle between life and death continues to inspire admiration in viewers today. #arte #art #masterpiece #sculpture
