Chaldea If we take a look at the early post flood timeline, there are reasons to believe that some of the first people to settle down in the post-flood Babylonia was the Chaldeans, who according to historians , settled down in the southeastern parts of Babylonia between the two rivers Euphrates and Tigris . But who were the first Chaldeans? To find out, we have to start with Arphacshad, the firstborn son of Shem. Arphacshad (apaxad, Arbalsad) Genesis calls him Arphacshad or arpaxad , but his name was most likely locally pronounced as Arbalsad. He was according to most ancient scriptures born 2 years after the great flood when his father Shem was 100 years old, and he died 438 years old. Arbalsad also founded a city called Arbalsabat which he named after his own name. He married a woman named Rasueja (The daughter of Susan, the daughter of Elam, the son of Shem). Elam (also in those days) founded the city of Susa, which he named after his daughter. Arbalsad became the father of the three sons, Salah , Kainam and Kesed-I Salah (Shelach) Arbalsad’s firstborn son was according to genesis Salah (Shelach). He was born when Arbalsad was 35 years old. According to the book of Jubilee, Salah married his cousin named Mu’ak who was a daughter of Kesed-I (the brother of his father Arbalsad). Salah was 433 years when he dies. Little else are known about him. Kesed-I (The older) Kesed-I is mentioned in the book of Jubilee as a brother of Kainam, and is thus also a son of Arbalsad. The book of Jubilee also mentions that he had a daughter named Mu’ak who married his older brother Salah. The book of Jasher mentions that Kesed-I and his children left Anatolia where his father lived and went to dwell where they could find a place, and they went and they found a valley opposite to the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there. And they there built themselves a city, and they called the name of the city Kesed after the name of their father. That is the land Kasdim unto this day, and the Kasdim (The sons of Kesed) dwelt in that land and they were fruitful and multiplied exceedingly. The children of kesed became ultimately known as the Chaldeans, and their land became known as Chaldea. The city Kasdim is also known as Ur-kasdim or the Ur (capital city) of the Caldees. It should not be confused with uruk or Urim . Both Terah and his son Abraham were Chaldean’s who were born in Ur-kasdim. There was also a later Kesed-II (The younger) who should not be confused with the son of Arbalsad . He was the son of Nahor-II and Milcah. Kainam The most interesting of the three sons of Arbalsad (in a historical setting) are Kainam. According to the book of Jubilee, Kainam was born when Arphacshad was 67 years old (69 years ATF) and he took a wife named Melka (The daughter of Madai, the son of Japhet). When Kainam grew up his father Arbalsad taught him how to read and write, and one day when he went to seek for a place where he might build a city he found a collection of stone-tablets which former pre-flood generations had written. And he read what was on them, and he transcribed them (and sinned owing to it), because they contained the teaching of the Watchers in accordance with which they used to observe the omens of the sun and moon and stars in all the signs of heaven. And Kainam wrote it all down and said nothing regarding it. because he was afraid to speak to Noah about it lest he should be angry with him on account of it. This Kainam is said to have invented magic, incantations and divination by the stars and even wrote books about it. The children of Kainam worshipped him like a god and erected a statue for him, and thus general idolism is said to have started. It is thanks to this Kainam that the Chaldeans begat their great wisdom and knowledge in Astronomy, mathematics and divination, as well as their great knowledge about Astrology , the signs of the zodiac, the precession of the equinoxes and the great year. Malah (Malach, Malich) Kainam became the father of the sons Haran-I and Malah . It is said that Kainam was 121 years old when he begat his son Malah (190 years ATF). The book of Jubilee claims that Kainam was the real father of Salah (Shelach), but there is reason to believe that the authors of Jubilee must have confused Sarah’s name with Malah. It is said that Kainam and his son Malah later joined Joctan and his sons when they migrated to the European parts of Danube (Balkan, about 357 ATF). Haran-I (Harran , Haron) Shortly after Haran-I was born, Kainam founded the ancient city called Harran which he named after his son Haran. The city Harran was located in the south-eastern corner of the ancient Anatolia (Turkey) on the border of todays Syria towards the mediterranian sea. It is thus one of the oldest cities in the post-flood world. It is also the city where Terah later settled down and where he died. The city became in later times known as Edessa.
