Experts say the #MajorOak, the legendary tree of #SherwoodForest linked to #RobinHood, has died. According to legend, Robin Hood and his Merry Men used the ancient oak as a hiding place in the forest. The RSPB, which manages Sherwood Forest, announced that the tree did not produce leaves this spring, a decisive sign after years of decline. Estimated to be around 1,200 years old, the Major Oak was one of the most famous trees in the UK, with its hollow trunk, huge canopy, and nearly eleven-meter circumference. Scientists say there is no single cause of death. Old age, heavy visitor pressure, past support work, and climate change all likely played a role. src #EdgarAllanPoets re #Random #NaturalSystems #OakTree
