Do you think you're being too paranoid vis-a-vis opsec? You're not being paranoid enough Never share your name. Never share your phone number. Don't tell anyone your location. Don't share photos of yourself or of places nearby. Don't tell people your birthdate (just pick a date very close to it if you want to -- like celebrating on the weekend when your birthday is a Wednesday.) If you want to help a fren financially, send crypto. If you feel the need to contribute to a "fren's" crowdfunding campaign, know they can likely see your real identity. If you must do it, never admit that you did it. Beware clicking on links you don't recognize -- better yet, use a VPN. That "private" telegram or group chat you're in? It isn't private. The close fren you've made with whom you're DMing? They might have terrible opsec or do something that exposes your chat. Don't reuse passwords. Activate 2fa on all your accounts (but use a google voice number or, better yet, a purpose built app). Tighten up your privacy settings on all your social media platforms. If you ever go to an in-person event, don't mention that you attended. Definitely don't share pics with your face covered, there may be others where your face is exposed. Occasionally drop insignificant disinfo to help cover any tracks you might accidentally leave. To this end, construct a persona w/slightly different attributes (different state, occupation, age, whatever) and consciously invoke that persona so that your disinfo is at least somewhat consistent.. e.g., talk about your nonexistent "nephew" whenever you're talking about your uncle. Don't follow local restaurants or politicians or sports teams to the exclusion of similar entities in other locations. Go off-platform and create accounts with the same username purely for the purpose of droppping false breadcrumbs. Review some distant restaurants you've never visited and say you enjoy the bacon and egg sandwich there for brunch every Sunday even tho you hate bacon and egg sandwiches. Find some articles about a distant high school sportsball team and repeatedly comment about the coach's performance at the big game on Friday. Don't use the same exact email address across multiple platforms. Don't use the exact same username across multiple platforms unless they were created altogether and all adhered to opsec rules. I realize this might sound funny coming from me as my real name is online and I am openly facedoxed, but I worry about my frens. We don't know what hacks might occur, what tools will eventually be available, etc (e.g., are you sure commodity consumer-facing voiceprinting or text fingerprinting won't become available?) What we do know is that there are a lot of people out there willing to ruin our lives because they disagree with us. The choices that face you are yours to make, I just want you to make informed decisions. Love you frens -- be safe.
