Carolina Day: Honoring Southern Valor and Heritage Today we celebrate Carolina Day, commemorating the heroic defense of Fort Moultrie on June 28, 1776, when South Carolinians repelled the British fleet in a pivotal Revolutionary War battle. The brave patriots, many of them militia and volunteers, stood firm under the “Moultrie Flag”—emblazoned with the defiant words "Liberty or Death." This victory proved that Southerners would never bow to tyranny. It’s a reminder of the courage, self-reliance, and fighting spirit that defined our ancestors—qualities we must reclaim today.
