More than 300 Metropolitan Police officers and staff have declared their involvement in the Freemasons or other “hierarchical associations” after the force required them to do so last month, a High Court judge has said. The Met announced in December that membership of the Freemasons or similar organisations would be added to its declarable associations policy. This meant officers and staff were required to declare membership “past or present” of any organisation that is “hierarchical, has confidential membership and requires members to support and protect each other”. The move prompted the bodies representing Freemasons in England, Wales, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands to begin legal action over the force’s decision at the High Court, with the organisations claiming that the move is discriminatory against Freemasons. https://www.itv.com/news/london/2026-01-13/more-than-300-police-officers-and-staff-declare-freemasons-involvement
