People know that cancer fighters and survivors need support, but it's very easy to say the "wrong" thing or approach us the wrong way and make things worse. Being consciously aware of this, some choose to say nothing at all not because they don't care but because they don't want to cause any harm, which is not helpful and supportive at best, and can actually be worse depending on who it is. But alas, here is a bit of a guide on how to approach this. The late Lori wrote about this in her excellent book, "Help Me Live, 20 Things People With Cancer Want You to Know," and I've covered it in my own flavor on my blog as well.
