I would like to amplify this because it’s a very important point: you must stand for something, not just against something. If you cannot articulate what you stand for, then you simply have no core values which can be preserved. This describes conservatism. The reason why conservatives have not conserved anything for the past 50 years is because conservatism mostly just boils down to resistance to rapid change. This is why conservatives are just liberals that are two election cycles behind. Two or three election cycles ago conservatives were universally against gay marriage. Now none of them are. Again, you must have an cogent philosophy that can be defended. Liberalism is a philosophy. In fact, it’s a religion. Leftist philosophy includes its concept of sin, salvation, and atonement. This is why the left wins. What is needed is a new muscular right wing that can articulate why its values are better for society. Until conservatives can do that they are useless as a political force. AF has not done that either, which is why they are destined to slide evermore leftward.
