🇮🇷🇺🇸Tehran's priorities and approach in the new phase of the war with the U.S. and its allies ➿➿➿➿➿➿➿➿➿➿ Iran has raised the cost of any aggression to a level that can no longer be managed within the framework of a limited operation. At the current juncture, Iran appears to have a strategic advantage in the field of deterrence. Its primary goal is not agreement—it is the military and economic defeat of the enemy. ✏️Samyar Rostami is a political observer and senior researcher in international relations. ➡️Iran's priorities include continuing to survive, maintaining command structures, preserving territorial integrity and national cohesion, maintaining capabilities, and preventing collapse. The government is making the armed forces more valued among citizens. Iran has no intention of returning to the pre-war status quo—it wants to turn battlefield realities into political gains. Negotiation is a political tool for coercion and obtaining real concessions. The combination of "pressure and negotiation" is of greater interest to Tehran—negotiation based on field pressures in case of non-implementation of commitments. Iran has succeeded in creating a kind of mutual deterrence that influences Washington's calculations and decisions. ➡️As long as the naval blockade continues, nothing special will happen in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump suddenly canceled a large-scale attack—disagreements in the White House, opposition from military commanders, decline in U.S. weapons stocks, concerns about Iran's missile capabilities, activation of new fronts by the resistance movement, and mediators such as Qatar, Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey all played a role. Iran has succeeded in creating mutual deterrence that influences Washington's calculations. On March 22, commander of Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Command said Iran's military doctrine had shifted from defensive to offensive. Mehdi Mohammadi stated that recent developments—especially preemptive operations in Jordan—indicate the regional battlefield has entered a completely new phase. 🟦Iran has taken the initiative by bypassing defensive reaction and expanding the conflict to vital bases and routes. Fronts are increasing in different directions—coordinated yet acting independently. A new axis of resistance with new actors is emerging. Tehran appears to have used ceasefire negotiations to buy time, secure resources, and reshape strategy. About three-quarters of the American public see the war as unnecessary—Trump's approval has declined in at least 11 states. War with Iran has become deeply unpopular, weakening Republican chances in November midterms. Washington will probably refrain from escalating tensions. Iran hopes that in a possible new order, regional enemies will become friends and common interests will form without dependence on the US military umbrella. Ignoring Iran's "strategic resilience" and "identity bonds" of Iranians will turn any prediction based on economic collapse into a mirage.
