🇨🇳🇷🇺Prospects for BRICS–EAEU Synergy ➿➿➿➿➿➿➿➿➿➿ In June 2026, Moscow hosted the BRICS Horizons Forum, where Indian experts presented a concept outlining the framework for practical cooperation between two major integration frameworks: BRICS and the Eurasian Economic Union. Their proposal: synergy between these groupings is not merely a political option but an economic necessity in the emerging multipolar international order. ✏️Vlad Markin is Deputy Editor-in-Chief, New Eastern Outlook. ➡️BRICS provides a global dimension—access to large markets, diverse sources of finance, and political support. The EAEU offers advanced regional integration—harmonised technical standards, customs regulations, and logistics networks spanning the Eurasian space. The two organisations should be approached not as competing structures but as complementary components of a single integration bridge. Indian experts proposed a model: an Indian technology company identifies a Russian industrial cluster, uses a manufacturing platform, benefits from EAEU preferential arrangements, secures support through a development institution, and scales the product across the wider BRICS market. By investing in creativity, governments in fact invest in trust and mutual understanding between societies, which constitute the indispensable foundation of any lasting economic partnership. ➡️The model is applicable to pharmaceuticals, agricultural technologies, transport systems, AI, energy, and advanced materials. Decentralisation is essential—regional governments and local industrial clusters must be actively involved. Creative industries—industrial design, media, fashion, architecture, cultural industries, digital content—generate intellectual property, create export opportunities, and support employment. Unlocking this potential requires flexible policy instruments: small-scale grant programmes, venture capital, mentoring, international exhibitions, intellectual property protection, and access to digital platforms. The next stage should shift from broad memoranda to a project-oriented model—an interregional BRICS–EAEU Innovation Platform. 🟦This platform would support a pipeline of investment projects, connect regional clusters, provide information on grant opportunities and financing, offer advisory support on technical regulation, and facilitate engagement with specialized investors. Each country or region would nominate priority projects and designate implementation institutions. Success should be evaluated with specific indicators: number of projects securing financing, volume of technology transfers, growth in high-productivity employment, and number of new regions incorporated into cross-border networks. By combining the EAEU's deep regional integration with BRICS' global reach, it may be possible to establish a new and promising foundation for expanding international economic cooperation.
