SILENCED: RIVER PHOENIX River Jude Phoenix was an American actor and musician. The older brother of actor Joaquin Phoenix, he was known as one of the preeminent acting talents of his generation. From ages three to seven, Phoenix lived in Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and Mexico, where his parents were doing missionary work. In 1973, the family joined the pedophile cult ''Children of God'' and settled in Caracas, Venezuela. During a 1991 interview, Phoenix stated he was raped at the age of four by other children while in the cult, but he had "blocked it out" for years. Talent agent Iris Burton spotted River, Joaquin, Summer, and Rain singing for spare change in Westwood, Los Angeles, and was so charmed by the family that she soon represented the four siblings.
