# Firearm ownership survey shoots holes in anti-gun stereotypes A newly updated National Firearms Survey challenges long-standing anti-gun narratives, estimating that 26.4 million Americans now own at least one so-called assault weapon, up from 24.6 million in the 2021 edition. Georgetown professor William English revised his questionnaire to address critics who called the earlier figure inflated. Amy Swearer writes that if gun-control activists disliked the 2021 conclusions, "they will likely lose their minds over the new ones." The survey also found half of gun owners possess a magazine holding more than 10 rounds, up from 48%. Rifle Association public affairs director Justin Davis said the findings were "no surprise." Davis argued that after hundreds of millions spent "dehumanizing" gun owners, statistics now show firearm ownership makes the country safer. He noted rising purchases by women and minorities shatter the stereotype of the white male Republican gun owner.
