Who founded Gab?
Last updated June 17, 2026
Gab was founded by Andrew Torba, a technology entrepreneur, in 2016. Torba previously co-founded a mobile advertising company, Kuhcoon (later renamed Automate Ads), before starting Gab.
Why he built Gab
Torba has described the origin of Gab as a response to his experience of viewpoint-based discrimination in Silicon Valley. In 2016, he was removed from Y Combinator's alumni network after posting his political opinions on social media. He has since described Gab as an answer to the question of what a social platform would look like if it took free speech seriously rather than using it as a marketing talking point.
Torba is openly Christian and has been vocal about his Christian faith informing the platform's values — a commitment to truth, free expression, and rejection of the ideological conformity he argues is embedded in Silicon Valley culture.
Torba's public presence
Andrew Torba is active on Gab under his own account and has written extensively about the platform's mission, the state of free speech online, and the parallel economy. He is one of the most prominent critics of Big Tech censorship and has been interviewed widely in conservative and independent media.
