# Trump defends Iran war, slams Democrats and promises cash at Republicans' midterm convention President Donald Trump used his keynote at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas to defend the war in Iran, attack Democrats, and promise a $5,000 "dividend" to every adult citizen if Republicans hold Congress. He told the crowd the conflict was necessary to stop Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Trump acknowledged the war had hurt the economy, with oil prices spiking and markets struggling, but said he acted because Iran was perhaps "two, maybe three weeks away from having a nuclear weapon." He pledged to campaign in about 35 key Senate and House races, urging supporters to pretend he is on the ballot in November. "If the Republicans win the Senate and House, because of our tremendous strength and success economically, I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000," Trump said.
