In modern times finding untouched deposits of gold is rare, the old miners from the original gold rush days were pretty cluey and they knew how to find gold. At times diverting the entire water flow of major rivers using techniques like wing damming to access the gold that sits in the depths. I’ve witnessed this sort of mining on rivers around Tasmania first hand and the work and ingenious thinking these old prospectors had was incredible to see. But these deposits do still exist and this past summer I’ve worked harder than ever before to find them. As the years have passed I’ve had to go more remote to find deposits like this with the Internet and the powerful mapping systems available there’s not to many places left in hiding.
