For a New Testament believer, or any post-resurrection individual, repentance is not returning to a promise of a future Savior, but rather turning to a present and finished work of Christ. The statement conflates the anticipation of the Messiah --Old Covenant expectation, with the response to the revealed Messiah --New Covenant reality.__ In the New Testament, the Greek word used for repentance is *Metanoia* (and the verb *metanoeo*). Etymologically, this means a change of mind, a shift in perspective, or a reorientation of one’s worldview. __While this change of mind results in a change of behavior (turning from sin), the core definition is cognitive and spiritual transformation, not merely a contractual return.*Metanoia* involves "acquisition, acknowledgment, acceptance, and adjustment" of one's standing before God.
