Kyle Thompson Games I decided to play all 3 in a row in order of release. Sheepo, Islets and Crypt Custodian. 100% all 3. And the games are really good standalone without context. With context I would say the games are great. As he solo developed all 3 in GameMaker in like 5 years. Impressive to say the least. The evolution jump in each of the games is quite clear and straight forward. Overall my favorite of the 3 was islets which got a cartoonish style with ghibli flair to it. Crypt Custodian was second and it is a really good and quite particular angled top down Metroidvania. Sheepo was the one I liked the least, even if I still liked the game quite a bit. The one thing it has that sucks is the map being extremely basic. Style of it reminds me a lot of Thomas Brush Pinstripe. To the point at first I thought it was made by him. I can fully recommend all 3 games. All available everywhere (even GOG) and in the case of Sheepo you can even play it for free on a Desktop as it is part of Opera GX games. Which is the only good thing about Opera GX Browser and the only reason to have that browser, for free games. Since it was made in GameMaker, it can be put in a browser. Kyle Thompson next game Well Dweller returns to a more islets style game while adding a lot of what he learned making Crypt Custodian and I look forward to it. Still made in GameMaker. Even if all his games look like if made in Unity or Godot. I would like if Kyle would release a Dev Doc Video on his process. As he being able to solo dev 4 games in 7 years as intricate and polished in GameMaker is puzzling. There is one thing missing to make his games pop even more which is no doubt more narrative as in story and cutscenes to complement the progression in the game. Only big corner cut, no doubt out of time and budget. All 3 can games run on Android at 1080p 60fps even on a HyperOS 3.0 ridden 7s Gen 2 with some tweaking. And 4K 60fps without any tweaking in a 8 Gen 2. In GameNative 1.1.1.
