I hear over and over again: The church treated me poorly, I'll never go back. Or these: They're just a bunch of hypocrites. I can't believe the preacher said that! They failed me. Friends, the only one who responds to our needs, cries, complains, or frustrations with any kind of consistency, love, and truth is God. Even He will offend our flesh out of the depth of His love for His kids. So, instead of blaming people for not meeting your needs the way you want them met; not saying the right things by bowing to your pity party; or pointing accusing fingers at a church and blaming God for everything, think about the true root. We are in the center of every situation. Chances are high that our irritation stems out of misplaced or unresolved fear, hate, anger, jealousy, and pride. I know this to be true for it was the way for me and I am not uniquely gifted in this behavior. The answer is to read Scripture until it reads you. Seek God first and ask, "What is within me that causes me to see or hear it contrary to the character of God? What do I need to surrender, change, or forgive? How does God see this through His Word?" Then remember: This world is not our final home. It is dark because of sin and humanity has free will ... rebellion against God is the most active sin ... even by those who call themselves Christian. Give grace. Offer forgiveness quickly, often, and move on. We cannot fix this world, but we can improve our tiny moment in it and learn from our experiences. Be slow to judge others for not doing what we need in the moment. Grow. Trust God. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
