What convinced me was something I read years ago that found fault with the studies done in the 1930s that concluded that fats contributed to heart attacks. Essentially, the studies were done when the discipline of Statistical analysis was first being developed. The scientists and nascent statisticians discovered that high cholesterol correlates with heart attacks. But what these early statisticians did NOT know was what we know now: correlation is not causation. They erroneously CONCLUDED using their new analytical tool (statistics) the cause of heart attacks was cholesterol and they were heralded for their discovery. Everything flows from this erroneous finding.
