Did you know? The core duty of our South Carolina legislators is to uphold and defend the Constitution—above everything else. Their oath of office specifically states that they must “preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of this State and of the United States.” That’s the standard they must meet as they draft, vote on, and pass laws that impact every single one of us. So, when you think about all the laws your legislator is passing, ask yourself: Are they voting yes to laws that adhere to the Constitution or not? They may claim they’re voting according to what their constituents want—but yikes, that is not part of their oath of office. The real question is: Are they upholding the Constitution or bowing to pressure? This commitment is outlined in the South Carolina Constitution, Article III, Section 26​ SC Statehouse.
