When America started closing large mental health facilities, it was during a national shift known as the deinstitutionalization movement that began shortly after 1955 with the introduction of #Thorazine, the first effective antipsychotic medication for severe mental illnesses like #schizophrenia. Later a novel by Ken Kesey was published in 1962 titled "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". It was based on the idea that "one flew over" the cuckoo's nest, referring to the fact that a cuckoo (crazy) person is going to escape from a mental hospital. A few years later Democrat President John F. Kennedy signed the Community Mental Health Act in 1963. This law aimed to treat patients in local clinics instead of large state asylums, like those for the criminally insane. Two years later, Democrat President LBJ gave us #Medicaid and #Medicare, which further propelled deinstitutionalization, because these programs did not cover the costs for patients in state mental institutions. So later during the 1970s and 1980s, deinstitutionalization had further escalated into mass closures. Patient populations in state hospitals dropped by more than half. States closed many remaining asylums due to funding shifts and new patient civil rights laws. By the end of the i980s, deinstitutionalization was almost complete, although it would continue slowly into the current day. Democrats forced the former U.S. Marine #DanielPenny had to face murder charges for the accidental death of Jordan Neely. Democrats allowed Decarlos Dejuan Brown Jr to slit #IrynaZarutska's throat on a Charlotte train. Just in 2023 alone, a Democrat NYC mayor allowed a total of 97 people to be struck by subway trains resulting in fatalities. Mentally ill people have been associated with the cuckoo bird for hundreds of years, and the "cuckoo's nest" was the mental hospital. So because Democrats won't lock up criminals or crazy people, now all them have been flying over the Cuckoo's Nest, including nurse #LindsayClancy. (* Although, in the movie, nurse Ratched might have been the crazy one.)
