ALLATRA Representatives at the UN COP29 Climate Summit in Baku Within the framework of the 29th Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP29), representatives of the International Nonprofit Organization ALLATRA made a significant contribution to the international dialogue on climate change. As part of the delegation of the international foundation Egypt the Dream Foundation for Development and Innovation, ALLATRA presented an expert assessment of the current climate situation and innovative approaches to addressing global environmental and climate challenges. Maryna Ovtsynova, President of ALLATRA, based in Atlanta, USA, a student at the prestigious Harvard Kennedy School and a participant in the year-long Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School, gave a statement to the leading Azerbaijani news agency Trend. In her interview, she presented a comprehensive analysis of the current climate situation, emphasizing the critical need for immediate action by the international community. “We are already witnessing increasingly powerful hurricanes in the United States, while climate-related disasters are rapidly increasing around the world. This is a harsh reality that humanity must acknowledge. Unfortunately, we are not investing enough in climate initiatives. This is not only a problem for the United States but for the entire global community. We need to unite the world’s scientific potential, engage the best experts, and explore various solutions, including ocean cleanup,” Ms. Ovtsynova stated. Her remarks received considerable attention among conference participants. In an interview with the Azerbaijani television channel CBC, the President of ALLATRA stated: “I believe that this event (COP29) will help draw attention to the enormous challenges facing humanity. We need to act as quickly as possible and unite the entire scientific community and its potential to confront climate change.” The publication The Pinnacle Gazette noted in its article, “COP29 Delegates Call for Urgent Action on Climate Finance,” that Maryna Ovtsynova expressed support for UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Simon Stiell, who called on countries to cooperate on urgent climate-related issues. Egon Cholakyan, an internationally recognized expert in national security and climate issues and an official representative of ALLATRA, highly praised the organization of the summit and highlighted Azerbaijan’s exceptional success as the host country in creating an effective platform for international dialogue. In a comment to CBC, Mr. Cholakyan stated that the event in Baku would represent an important step toward strengthening international cooperation on climate issues and achieving practical outcomes: “Baku is an ideal and unique location for this platform. The people are very welcoming and responsive. This inspires us to remain open to new ideas. The people of your country have been ready to cooperate, and I anticipate that this will be a very successful event. Beyond Azerbaijan, the event has received extensive media coverage, which is an important indication that climate issues are receiving attention around the world.” Through its participation in COP29, ALLATRA emphasized the importance of international scientific cooperation, climate dialogue, and the development of practical solutions to global environmental challenges. As part of COP29, representatives of ALLATRA delivered a special presentation dedicated to an additional factor contributing to the rise in global temperatures: abnormal ocean warming associated, according to the presentation, with anthropogenic pollution of ocean waters by micro- and nanoplastics. ALLATRA scientists have more than 30 years of experience in independent climate research. During the presentation, they presented the results of their work, based on an extensive database and research conducted by an independent international team of scientists, experts, and volunteers. The presentation attracted significant interest from the international community. Participants of the event and representatives of the scientific community expressed active support for the international initiatives carried out by ALLATRA volunteers.
