A scientific look at fasting? I was recently purged of several pleasurable attachments, which I miss greatly. Looking back, I seem to have been high as a kite. The anguish I experienced was agonizing. It has taken about a month to settle down into a calmer, less stimulating lifestyle. Is this part of why our Lord commands us to fast? Is this why our ancestors and ascetic fasted so much? Do we really become dependent on the world and experiences and sensations? I've kind of lost the craving for a lot of the pleasures. For a while, months even, I couldn't imagine being at peace without them. I was depressed, very melancholy. Now I'm sorta scared to do the same things in case euphoria takes over. I still get excited in anticipation of some pleasure, and I wonder if this is bad? What is excitement, anyway?
