The following is a reply to ArchCast’s video on the recent “Hazbin Hotel” (I’ll link it in the post). If you haven’t watched it I’d recommend it. But his take is extremely common among Christians, so I wanted to share some counter points in case anyone here falls into a similar discussion with friends or family. Why Adam Is A Villain But God is Is The Worst Villain: So, let’s get into the bits that you missed, either due to a lack of knowledge of Christianity or (more likely) the fact that you’ve already tragically drank the koolaide: 1: Most of the souls in Hell ARE Innocents to anyone who’s not a radical Christian. Throughout Christian history even up to today (for most sects), Christians taught that anyone who died a non-Christian, no matter how virtuous, went to hell forever. And thanks to “original sin” (more on that later) there was no escaping Hell even if you lived an otherwise PERFECT life. In fact, God made human nature a sin in and of itself, so even the fact that humans have sexual desire is EXPLICITLY cited in the Bible as being Hell-worthy, despite us needing lust to, you know, make more humans. Additionally, anyone who dies before baptism goes to Hell (yes, I know that some sects of Christianity have recently chickened out on this doctrine for PR reasons but many haven’t and that didn’t become a trend until the 80’s so it doesn’t count) which is why there are so many CHILDREN in Hell. But worst of all, anyone born BEFORE Christianity goes to Hell, full stock no exceptions (some few of God’s favorites were later let out but most supposedly weren’t). So by Christian DOCTRINAL LOGIC 99.99999999% of humans go to Hell to be tormented for eternity, with only a VERY few being spared that unfathomably horrible fate. According to some Christians (the the Jehovah’s Witnesses for example) only 144,000 people, or basically one mid-sized American town, WON’T go to Hell. And mind you, most of the people who went there would have been innocent or at least generally decent folks. That’s UNFATHOMABLY evil but since all Christians believe that won’t happen to them they never really give it any thought. And you can just imagine the effect several centuries in Hell would have on someone who was a good person and only went to Hell because, well… Frankly because God wanted to send them to Hell and for literally no other reason. 2: God could easily make this not the case at any point with a snap of his fingers but chooses to, apparently out of pure sadism (we’ll see what motive he’s given in the show but it ain’t gonna be pretty). Instead he chooses to slaughter and torture humanity, and Adam is more than happy to do so. In fact, he delights in murdering people who he constantly reminds us are his OWN CHILDREN. The man literally gets off on slaughtering and torturing his own family, a fact which you can attempt to dress up as “well he’s bitter about being cucked by his abuse victim wives” (note that the only line of dialogue he gets in the Bible is to hide behind his wife’s skirt and throw her under the bus for his own choice), but that’s a PRETTY flimsy excuse that I don’t think you would be willing to make for anyone not so doctrinally significant. 3: Charlie HAD in fact made a lot of progress in just a few short months, placing multiple souls within inches of redemption (which they can apparently achieve all on their own, no Jesus required) and even succeed once. I’m not sure why you claimed otherwise, that seems a BIT dishonest. The angels choosing to ignore the evidence indicates that they’re clearly more invested in maintaining the hegemony of their status quo rather than doing the honorable thing, and Adam is the living embodiment of that evil… Though to be fair, SOME angels clearly disagree. I could go on and on about the symbolism and nuance in the show (like how the angels themselves don’t even know the criteria for entrance into heaven, mirroring the fact that there’s ZERO consensus from Christianity on the matter) but I believe I’ve made my point. Adam is evil (and likely always has been) and the Angels are 100% in the wrong. Frankly, the fact that many Christians are trying to take an obviously evil Character like Adam and act like he’s a hero just shows the mental and moral excuses that Christians will engage in to protect their ideology… Which kind of proves the show right, doesn’t it? https://youtu.be/_T7y330iCZY?si=4D3QD9soMAlQDL3S
