Disciplines Exertion builds strength, to continue to do what you can do now - maintain. To build toward doing harder things - grow. Growth takes you to places where you can see what you can't see now. Disciplines enable you to help others to maintain, grow and help yet others. Exertion forces you, sometimes, to ask for help from God or neighbor, a humbling, hard exertion that creates opportunities for relationships, for mutual serving, for building humility, for trusting another that when increasing in number, creates close-knit community like family. The most worthwhile disciplines are those that last longest, and transform us most profoundly. God's word the Bible instructs us in lifegiving disciplines that build you, family and community, and teaches us how to acquire the strength to undertake virtuous disciplines from relationship with Him WHILE PRACTICING SOUL-REST. Love, joy, peace, patience/steadfastness, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility and self-control are fruit of the human spirit flowing from fellowship with Holy Spirit. So they are called the fruit of the Spirit. Disciplines that make us more like Jesus are holy disciplines, disciplines that make us heart-holy. Holiness is not stuffy or proud (1Cor 13). They are not burdensome because of the fruit they produce, fruit that are eternal, unending, fruit that not only change our bodies and minds, but our hearts to cherish Him and His greatness, goodness and nearness. Holy disciplines don't just change our appearance but our desires, goals and what we value/love.
