The Tampa Bay Hotel. Built 1888-1891. Designed by architect J.A. Wood and built by railroad magnate Henry Plant. Opened as a 511 room resort hotel. The building itself covers over 6 acres and is a quarter mile long. Contained the first elevator ever installed in Florida and is still operational today. It's rooms were the first in Florida to have electric lighting and telephones.
