Posted by #Nikokobean on #Facebook: "TWO MIDDLE SCHOOLERS. HOMEMADE GUNS. EXPLOSIVES. AND GREAT REPLACEMENT THEORY. This is one of those stories that deserves a lot more attention. Authorities in St. Johns County, Florida say a FortifyFL tip led investigators to two Switzerland Point Middle School students (a 14-year-old identified as Julian Davis and a 13-year-old identified as Charles Williams) who were allegedly communicating about homemade weapons and planning an armed robbery. But when investigators searched Davis’ home, they say they found something far more disturbing than a robbery plot. They recovered three homemade firearms, ammunition, suspected explosive materials, handwritten weapons notes, diagrams, manifesto-style books and a tactical vest containing white-supremacist imagery. And according to WUSF, investigators also found materials promoting the “Great Replacement Theory.” That matters. The Great Replacement Theory is not simply some harmless internet conspiracy. It is a racist conspiracy theory centered around the belief that white populations are deliberately being replaced by non-white people and immigrants. And in this case, authorities say that material was found alongside white-supremacist and Neo-Nazi imagery, references to Adolf Hitler, material about previous mass shootings and evidence that the teenager had researched mass shooters and explosives. The ATF also tested materials recovered from the home and found homemade black powder and other chemical components that authorities say could be used to create explosive devices. The boys were arrested after an anonymous FortifyFL tip on April 27. The investigation determined that the alleged activity occurred off campus, and officials say there was no direct threat made toward the school. The 14-year-old faces multiple felony charges and is being prosecuted as an adult. The 13-year-old faces a conspiracy charge and was released from custody. And this is the part parents need to pay attention to: This didn’t allegedly begin with a gun. It began with what a child was consuming, researching and communicating about online. Extremist ideology doesn’t magically appear in someone’s head at 18. Young people can encounter this material online, become immersed in it, and have their worldview shaped by it. That doesn’t mean every child who encounters hateful content will become violent. But when extremist ideology + weapons research + explosives + fascination with mass shooters + an alleged plan to commit an armed robbery all appear in the same investigation, it is absolutely worth asking how that radicalization happened and how long the warning signs were visible. And in this case, one anonymous tip may have stopped something much worse from happening. If you see something genuinely concerning, say something. Because sometimes the person who notices the warning sign is the person who prevents the tragedy."
