What is HPV screening? HPV screening is a test that looks for the presence of human papillomavirus (HPV) in cells taken from the cervix. HPV is a common sexually transmitted infection, and some types of HPV can cause cervical cancer. There are different methods for HPV screening, including: Pap test with HPV co-testing: This method involves collecting cells from the cervix with a swab or brush and examining them under a microscope. The same sample can be tested for the presence of HPV DNA using a laboratory test. HPV test only: This method involves testing for the presence of HPV DNA in cells collected from the cervix, without a Pap test. This method is recommended for women over the age of 30 as part of cervical cancer screening.
