The moderator asks "what is Bushcraft to you?" Well it is a pretty wide continuum in my mind, from camping to backpacking or canoeing - long or short distances - but one of the keys is getting a way from all the tech and just concentrating on being out and about. Skills and practice come into play, of course. Off in the morning for a couple of hours to practice some bushcraft skills. When I was camping I was using tarps only for canopies, coverings and the like. This will be the first time using them for lean-to, modified (Adirondack), plow point and maybe a few more, but those are the essentials. I have to get started so that I can get these skills passed on to the grandsons and keep the skills sharp. The last time I went tent camping was more than 15 years ago which kind of shocks me. I always enjoyed it but a back injury and surgery means no more sleeping on the ground. The guy I'm going with is wanting to practice some fire starting but there aren't any fireplaces around that I've seen and we'll be on public land so not sure that will work, but I'm up for it if the weather isn't too hot by then. We and another guy have arranged to set up a series of skill demos and get a few dads and kids started on a small curriculum of those kinds of skills once the weather isn't quite so oppressive. It'll be a quick ruck in and do as much as we can in the shade, enjoy the morning and then head out. It's not much, but it counts!
