We are in a joyous time now as Jewish people, we have reached the month of Adar and the fast of Esther is tomorrow but can we be joyous when we are faced with the first question of passover, we will be reading the miglia from bomb shelters and can we be in a state of celebration? How do we understand Purim when we cannot be mourning? Bob Dylan said it best “G*d is on your side”. This Purim how do w know joy? Joy takes many forms and this year it comes from the ability to stick it to the man. During the days of Queen Esther Hayman wanted to kill us, today the Iran formally Persia leaders want to kill us who are Haymen’s descendants and like queen Esther we will win again. When we fast tomorrow, we should remember as we honor Esther for defending the Jewish people we should remember that the Iranians who are decedents of her subjects are starving. Freedom is not guaranteed. Of course it is the Jews of Iran who cannot show an Israeli flag without being killed. Mordacai and Esther’s bodies remain in Iran. Dark times often have us ask if G*d hears our prayers, in the Magilia G*d does not reveal himself even once and the lesson of Esther is even when you do not think G*d is watching He is and Esther saved her people. Devine intervention is ensured by observance of Mitsvot because with each Mitsvot G*d’s love shines brighter. When Esther saved our people she made it possible for us to shine light for generations so I implore you to read the magila and fast if you can. If you are disabled you have an exemption not to, but to everyone else that can, it helps. So therefore this Purim there is nothing about us without us as you read the Magilia in any way you can or giving the gifts of Purim even if you cannot fast.
